The Mercy Health Bariatric Restraint Sets were developed in collaboration with Mercy Health clinical staff and security personnel to provide a patient management solution specifically tailored to the unique requirements of intensive care, mental health, and bariatric healthcare environments. Based on the proven Stryker Stretcher Strap Kit concept, this customized system incorporates a range of enhancements focused on improving patient comfort, operational efficiency, and staff safety. The sets cover the ED, ICU and Mental Health Units.
Through extensive consultation and on-site evaluation, traditional tether systems were redesigned to incorporate rapid-adjustment Cam Buckle technology, allowing for faster application, simple adjustment, and quick release when required. Tether lengths have also been specifically modified to accommodate the wider dimensions of bariatric beds, enhancing both patient comfort and restraint positioning.
Manufactured from a combination of durable dark green and black neoprene, the system provides exceptional strength, comfort, and long-term durability. The soft neoprene construction helps improve patient comfort while withstanding the rigours of demanding healthcare environments.
The wrist cuffs are secured around the patient using heavy-duty hook and loop fastening. An additional restraint strap wraps around each cuff and is secured using 25mm restraint webbing threaded through dual metal D-rings, creating a strong, adjustable, and reliable connection.
The wrist cuff anchor assemblies attach directly to designated anchor points on a bed, stretcher, or trolley. These assemblies utilise Cam Buckle tether straps fitted with metal sash tongues, which securely engage with tamper-resistant protector buckles mounted on the anchor straps. This design provides a highly secure restraint system while allowing authorised personnel to rapidly adjust or release the patient when required.
The ankle cuff anchor assembly is attached to the lower anchor points of the bed, stretcher, or trolley and features a combination of Cam Buckle and side-release buckle tether straps. This configuration delivers secure lower limb management while maintaining ease of application and adjustment for clinical staff.
Once the patient has been positioned, the wrist cuffs are connected to the wrist anchor assemblies, while the ankle cuffs are fitted and secured using the same proven D-ring and tether arrangement. To further enhance versatility, the complete kit also includes a Bariatric Ankle and Wrist Bracelet Set, providing additional patient management options for varying clinical requirements.
All components are supplied in a durable grey denier zip storage bag, keeping the kit protected, organised, and readily available for rapid deployment in emergency, intensive care, and mental health environments.
