Special Needs Harness
HEMCO Industries manufactures a range of Special Needs Harnesses designed to provide additional postural support and occupant positioning for passengers with disabilities or medical conditions who cannot be safely restrained by a standard vehicle seat belt alone.
NDIS Information
Customers accessing funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) must obtain approval from their NDIS provider or plan manager before an order can be processed.
When is a Special Needs Harness Required?
A standard seat belt is not suitable for every passenger. Some individuals may be unable to maintain the correct seating position or may unintentionally move or slip out of a conventional seat belt, increasing the risk of injury during travel.
HEMCO Special Needs Harnesses are designed to provide additional support to help maintain a safer seating position while travelling.
Important Information
Special Needs Harnesses:
- Are intended only for passengers with special needs, disabilities, or medical conditions.
- Do not replace a standard vehicle seat belt or an approved child restraint.
- Must always be used in conjunction with the vehicle’s seat belt, unless otherwise specified.
- Should be selected and fitted in accordance with the user’s individual needs and professional recommendations.
Australian State and Territory authorities generally require a medical certificate or approval from an appropriate healthcare professional before a Special Needs Harness can be used.
HEMCO recommends consulting your occupational therapist, medical practitioner, or designated case worker to determine the most appropriate restraint solution. Guidance should also be followed in accordance with AS/NZS 4370 – Restraint of Children with Disabilities or Medical Conditions in Motor Vehicles.
