The Mercy Health Safety Restraint Sets have been specifically designed and manufactured in collaboration with Mercy Health clinical and security teams following extensive on-site consultation and assessment. Developed to meet the unique requirements of Hospital Ward, Emergency Department (ED), and Intensive Care Unit (ICU) environments, each kit is colour coded to identify its designated department, allowing for quick recognition, efficient deployment, and improved equipment management.
Designed for use when a highly agitated client may pose a risk to themselves, healthcare staff, or others, this restraint system enables essential medical treatment and patient care to be delivered safely while maintaining a secure clinical environment. The system focuses on providing effective patient management while supporting both patient wellbeing and staff safety.
Following extensive evaluation, several modifications were incorporated into the design, including customized tether strap configurations and specially sized ankle and wrist cuffs tailored to suit the beds and equipment used within individual departments. In addition, selected ankle and wrist restraint components were upgraded to utilize a rapid-adjustment Cam Buckle system, providing faster application, secure tensioning, and efficient release when required.
The wrist cuffs are manufactured from durable, comfortable materials and are applied using heavy-duty 50mm hook and loop Velcro. Once fitted, an integrated tether strap wraps around the cuff and is threaded through dual metal D-rings, creating a strong and secure restraint connection.
The wrist cuff anchor assembly is positioned midway along the bed and attached to designated anchor points using the Cam Buckle tether system. The ankle cuff anchor assembly is positioned at the foot of the bed and secured in the same manner, providing reliable lower limb restraint and patient positioning.
The Cam Buckle tether arrangement allows caregivers to tighten, adjust, and release the restraint quickly and efficiently, enhancing both operational effectiveness and patient management during time-critical situations.
Once the patient is safely positioned, the ankle cuffs are applied around the ankles using 50mm hook and loop Velcro and secured with tether straps threaded through dual metal D-rings. This system provides a strong, reliable restraint while maintaining patient comfort and allowing clinical staff to continue treatment safely.
